At the Community Initiative Bond meeting on Wednesday evening, a question was asked concerning the placement of library branches by population density.

"The library sites new branch libraries based on two factors; proximity to other branch libraries and population. To decide proximity, a three-mile service area radius is considered. If an area does not have a branch within three miles, a new branch is considered. However, a sufficient level of population (at least 35,000 people) has to be present in the area for a new branch to be considered. In addition, the Library Facilities Plan (1998-2008) specifically recommends a new branch library in the vicinity of Loop 1604 between Blanco Road and Hwy. 281 to address the rapidly increasing population in that area of the City."

Please refer to the attached map to see the location of current library branches.
