The City of San Antonio’s Transportation and Capital Improvements department presented the attached list of recommended projects for the 2017 – 2022 Bond Program to Mayor and Council at today’s City Council B Session briefing. City staff, in consultation with other City departments, Mayor and City Council Offices, public and private agencies, as well as residents, developed the list of recommended projects. The bond program allows the City to make major investments in basic infrastructure, such as streets, sidewalks, drainage and other community facilities. The 2017 – 2022 Bond Program is anticipated to be $850 million.

"We've worked hard to put the City in a strong financial position to make these investments in our community. More importantly, we've delivered on-time and within budget on past bond programs,” said City Manager Sheryl Sculley.

Five community bond committees, comprised of individuals with various backgrounds from across the community, will review the list of recommended projects. They are charged with critically evaluating and recommending a prioritized list of projects to City Council before an election is called. Residents are invited to participate in any of the five community bond committee focus areas:

  • Streets, Bridges & Sidewalks
  • Drainage & Flood Control
  • Parks, Recreation & Open Space
  • Facility Improvements
  • Neighborhood Improvements

The community bond committee meetings will begin October 3, 2016 and will continue through December 15, 2016, as needed. All meetings will be held at the Central Library Auditorium located at 600 Soledad Street. Parking is free and meetings are open to the public.

At the end of the community input phase, the community bond committees will submit their recommended projects to the Mayor and City Council for final consideration in January 2017. Upon review and approval, the Mayor and City Council will create a call to action for the bond program in February 2017. With this action, the proposed 2017-2022 Bond Program would then go before voters for approval in May 2017. Residents are asked to visit www.sanantonio.gov/2017bond for more information.
