In addition to providing care for animals entering the ACS facility, Animal Care Services also holds the responsibility of ensuring the safety of residents from dangerous or unhealthy animals. ACS also intervenes on behalf of homeless animals at risk of injury, starvation or death on our roads and streets.

You can help a stray animal during an emergency situation by contacting 311, the City’s Customer Service Line. Inform the service representative of the following so that appropriate action can be taken in a timely manner.

Report if the animal is:

  • Stray and/or injured
  • Loose vicious (the animal (s) has a known owner and you can provide owner information)
  • Stray vicious (unknown owner )
  • Stray public nuisance (dog roaming, getting into trash etc, dog not vicious – just a public nuisance)
  • Regular stray (no owner, not causing problem – just a stray)
  • Stray traps (any animal in a live animal trap)
  • Stray contained (an animal that is being contained in an area, i.e. pool area, backyard area, garage)

Immediately call 911 if you or someone else has been physically attacked by a dog. Remember! It’s State Law that all animal bites must be reported to Animal Care Services. You may call the bite office line at (210) 207-6667 or 311 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
