Councilman Ray Lopez of District 6, City officials and area groups celebrated construction at Tom Slick Creek Park. This project will create new basketball courts and add shade structures to the existing amenities. It will also improve the park signage and access.
“Tom Slick Creek Park is already a popular spot for families and pet owners in District 6,” said Councilman Lopez. “By adding more sports amenities and shade structures to combat the hot San Antonio summers, this park will be an even better resource for everyone who values spending time outdoors.”
The Tom Slick Creek Park project is also making history with the City of San Antonio with contractor Consolidated Installation Support, LLC (CIS). CIS is the first local African-American Business Enterprise awarded a project as a prime contractor.
“We work very closely with the minority business community to ensure our consultants and contractors represent all of San Antonio,” said Mike Frisbie, City Engineer and Director of Transportation & Capital Improvements. “We are looking forward to working with CIS and hope to foster even more relationships with minority- and women-owned businesses.”
The Tom Slick Creek Park project is managed by Transportation & Capital Improvements on behalf of the Parks and Recreation Department. The design by Bender Wells Clark Design is being constructed by CIS, LLC. The project is funded with $375,000 from the 2012-2017 Bond Program.
