The intersection of Broadway and Hildebrand will be closed for the weekend beginning Friday, April 25, 2014. This weekend’s closure will start at 9 p.m. on Friday night and last until 5 a.m. Monday morning. Crews will work 24-hours a day during the closure.
A portion of Broadway between Burr and Groveland will also be closed. Traffic will be detoured to local streets. Construction crews will install box culverts for the storm drainage system across the intersection.
Visitors leaving the Fiesta Flambeau Parade by driving up Broadway are encouraged to return to US 281 through the designated detour route on Josephine, before the closed intersection.
Access to all businesses will remain available through local streets while the intersection and roadway is closed. Signs will be placed to direct motorists through the detours.
Additional intersection closures to continue the culvert installation and reconstruct the roadway are in the planning stages and will be announced as soon as dates and times are confirmed.
The attached detour map shows the routes open to drivers. Drivers will be diverted with signage to N. New Braunfels before they reach the intersection. Drivers headed east on Hildebrand are required to turn right onto Broadway, where they can continue south or follow the signage toward N. New Braunfels to head north.
All drivers are encouraged to travel at appropriate speeds while using local roads. Electronic message boards are in place to notify motorists of the upcoming closure. Area businesses and residents have also been notified.
The Broadway Corridor Phase IIIA (Broadway-Hildebrand) project will provide a drainage system designed to convey a 100-year storm event across Broadway Street, improving driving conditions and safety along Broadway Street and Hildebrand Avenue. This project also includes reconstruction of Broadway and Hildebrand with curbs, sidewalks, driveway approaches, addition of turn lanes and traffic signal improvements. SAWS and CPS Energy will be replacing and adjusting the water, sewer and gas facilities throughout the project area. In addition, this project includes the construction of the approved Broadway Street/Hildebrand Avenue underground conversion project as part of the CPS Energy CIED Program to bury all overhead utility lines at the four corners of the intersection.
