The intersection of Broadway and Hildebrand will open earlier than planned from a four day closure. The intersection will open by 3 p.m. today, 14 hours earlier than scheduled, to accommodate after-work traffic.
This last closure of the intersection was originally scheduled to remain in place until 5 a.m. Wednesday morning. Crews worked 24 hours a day during the closure.
Work during the closure included completing the installation of one 16’x16’ box culvert and several 12’x6’ box culverts for the storm drainage system. Each drainage box was placed 15 to 20 feet deep, requiring the removal of a large volume of dirt from the site. Crews also reconstructed the roadway after completing the underground work. (Attached photos show work taking place during the closure.)
Remaining work throughout the project includes drainage installation, roadway reconstruction, traffic signal work and landscaping. The Broadway-Hildebrand project is slated to finish in July.
The Broadway Corridor Phase IIIA (Broadway-Hildebrand) project will provide a drainage system designed to convey a 100-year storm event across Broadway Street, improving driving conditions and safety along Broadway Street and Hildebrand Avenue. This project also includes reconstruction of Broadway and Hildebrand with curbs, sidewalks, driveway approaches, addition of turn lanes and traffic signal improvements. SAWS and CPS Energy will be replacing and adjusting the water, sewer and gas facilities throughout the project area. In addition, this project includes the construction of the approved Broadway Street/Hildebrand Avenue underground conversion project as part of the CPS Energy CIED Program to bury all overhead utility lines at the four corners of the intersection.
