What is Urban Design?

  • Context of the surroundings, the socio-cultural and physical climate, which determines the building form, scale and timing of developments;
  • Connectivity, which should be comfortable and convenient for both people and vehicles; and
  • Contribution to the streetscape, greenery, the public spaces of San Antonio.

Why is urban design important?

  • better public health
  • greater social equity
  • enhanced land values
  • a more vibrant local economy
  • more sustainable use of non-renewable resources

What is City Design Center’s purpose?

  • Educate the public to be aware of design quality and demand for good design in the built environment
  • Encourage a more vibrant professional design community
