City Clerk to display Historical Treasures for Tricentennial Commemorative Week

SAN ANTONIO (May 1, 2018) —  On Thursday, May 3, the Office of the City Clerk – Municipal Archives & Records Division will display San Antonio’s Historical Treasures and Sister City Agreements during the Sister City Commemorative Ceremony in the City Council Chambers.

 

As Commemorative Week honors the anniversary of the founding of Mission San Antonio de Valero on May 1, 1718, later known as The Alamo; the Office of the City Clerk will have for public viewing San Antonio City Record Book 1 which contains handwritten maps of the Alamo and Alamo Plaza dating back to December 1849.

 

Other significant items within the Office of the City Clerk Archival Collection which chronicle the 300 years of San Antonio include the oldest book of San Fernando de Bexar Minutes (in Spanish) dating back to 1770, as well as a preserved penned letter from Mexican President Porfirio Díaz and a penned letter from General Antonio López de Santa Anna. 

 

In honor of the Representatives and International Dignitaries participating in the May 3rd Sister City Commemorative Ceremony; the Office of the City Clerk will also display Sister City Agreements previously presented to City Officials as a reflection of shared cultural and economic ties.

 

Additionally, in honor of Founders’ Day, the Office of the City Clerk will also display historical documents and items at the Municipal Archives & Records Facility located at 719 S. Santa Rosa St. on Saturday, May 5 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Public viewing of historical documents and records of San Antonio’s cultural diversity, political influences, and growth from a City originally 36 square miles in size when founded in 1718.
