SAN ANTONIO (Aug. 30, 2017)  —  Mayor Ron Nirenberg on Wednesday launched the Mayor’s Hurricane Relief Fund to provide support and aid for Texans whose lives were upended by Hurricane Harvey.

Mayor Nirenberg unveiled the fund as he praised the culture of generosity that flourishes in San Antonio. Corporations and average citizens alike are inundating the Mayor’s Office with offers of supplies, shelter and monetary donations.

“We are announcing the creation of the Mayor’s Hurricane Relief Fund, which we are setting up in partnership with the San Antonio Area Foundation,” Mayor Nirenberg said. “The fund will give us an opportunity to centralize monetary donations and expedite the flow of aid to those in need.”

Mayor Nirenberg added, “The fund will support relief efforts for evacuees in San Antonio and offer resources for support providers in the coastal bend area.”

The fund’s website is live and can be reached on the San Antonio Area Foundation home page at saafdn.org.

Since 1964, the San Antonio Area Foundation has distributed more than $358 million in grants and scholarships to educate youth, preserve the environment, protect animals, fund research and provide services that enhance the quality of life for people living in and around San Antonio.

“Today, the foundation is stepping up to the plate to help us coordinate the incredible response our city has received to help our neighbors in Houston and the coast,” Mayor Nirenberg said.
