SAN ANTONIO (February 8, 2018) — Today, City Council approved a Resolution of Support for affordable housing rental development projects by applicants seeking a competitive 9% Housing Tax Credits with the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA). There were three projects located in District 3, including:
- Piedmont Lofts located at 826 E. Highland Blvd.
- Village at Roosevelt located at 1507 Roosevelt Ave.
- San Juan Mission Villas located at 9159 S. Presa St.
“San Antonio’s affordable housing crisis is yet another symptom of the economic segregation that is plaguing our city. If we don’t put affordable housing at the forefront of our decision-making, the residents and families that have called their neighborhood home for so long will continue to be pushed out of San Antonio, irreparably damaging the character and identity of our communities.
The tenants who occupy these rental units are working families, our seniors, veterans, and other good, hardworking individuals. We want to keep legacy residents in their neighborhoods as they begin to see change and appreciation,” stated Councilwoman Viagran.
Today’s vote does not guarantee these development projects will be selected once they go through the statewide competitive review process conducted by TDHCA.
