SAN ANTONIO (APRIL 23, 2018) The Tricentennial Commission is searching for volunteers to give back to San Antonio during Commemorative Week as part of its Serve 300 SA initiative.  Serve 300 mobilizes partner agencies and volunteers with community service opportunities throughout the Tricentennial year.  Volunteers can sign up for seven different community service opportunities during Commemorative Week, with more events slated for the fall.

Volunteers who register online at www.sanantonio300.org will receive a Commemorative Tricentennial T-Shirt.  The Serve 300 SA initiative is made possible by generous sponsorships and volunteer commitments from Valero, NuStar and Whataburger.

"Valero is excited to include Serve 300 in our ongoing volunteer activities supporting local communities. We look forward to Commemorative Week, an exciting week of events and festivities with many opportunities to lend a helping hand to San Antonio. We encourage all residents to join us by volunteering and enjoying this city-wide celebration,” said Joe Gorder, Chairman, President and CEO of Valero.

Nearly 6,500 volunteers have participated in Serve 300 SA events and have contributed more than 17,000 hours of community service to 45 partner agencies.

“There is no better way to commemorate San Antonio’s legacy than by helping those in need.  We are proud to be working with the Tricentennial Commission to give back to the community that we call home,” said Bill Greehey, Chairman of NuStar Energy.

To kickoff Commemorative Week, volunteers will join Corazon Ministries, Inc. to serve as Café Corazon Chefs for a Day.  Volunteers will prepare freezer meals that will be served in future weeks to help homeless neighbors.  The San Antonio Food Bank will provide cooking and nutrition demonstrations.

“At Whataburger, we believe in honoring history as we look to the future, and our community has established some incredible traditions over the past 300 years. We’re proud to volunteer alongside fellow San Antonians during Commemorative Week and encourage everyone to get involved as we invest in our city’s culture,” said Pam Cox, Whataburger Vice President of Customer Engagement & Brand Communication.

Volunteers will also come together with First Presbyterian Church for a Habitat for Humanity called Project 300.  The volunteers will convene on May 6, 2018 to help build homes for those in need.  Volunteers will also help develop native plants at Woodlawn Lake Park on May 5, 2018 to provide a habitat for birds, butterflies and park wildlife.  The garden will commemorate San Antonio’s Tricentennial and Woodlawn Lake’s Centennial anniversary.

Interested participants can register online at https://sanantonio.galaxydigital.com.
