The review process for the City of San Antonio City Council regarding proposed changes to CPS Energy and the San Antonio Water System (SAWS) rates will continue through November.
CPS Energy and SAWS representatives are scheduled to meet with the City Council three times before a vote on the proposed rate adjustments is taken. During the first meeting, the utilities present their revenue requirements to the City Council which includes information such as the rate increase requested, the additional revenue it is projected to generate, and how the revenue would be used.
At the second meeting, the utilities present any changes to their rate designs, which is the billing structure that enables the utilities to recover their costs. The City’s Public Utilities Division performs a rate review which is ongoing. As required by the City Charter, the City’s Public Utilities Supervisor, Ben Gorzell, Chief Financial Officer, will make a recommendation on the rate increase based on the rate review that was conducted. The recommendation will be provided at the third meeting with the City Council.
Following the third meeting, the City Council confirms the date that it will vote on the proposed rate adjustments. The City Council then takes action on the proposed changes to the utilities rates.
The City Council then takes action on the proposed changes to the public utilities rates.
