Councilman Diego M. Bernal invites community members to the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the Neal Elementary School SPARK on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013 at 10 a.m. The event will take place on the new SPARK grounds at the back of San Antonio Independent School District’s Neal Elementary School campus, 3407 Capitol Ave.
The SPARK Program, hosted by San Antonio Sports, repurposes greenspace on school campuses into school parks (SPARKS) open to the whole community. The Neal Elementary SPARK was made possible through the collaboration of San Antonio Sports, the San Antonio Independent School District, City Council District 1, and a generous contribution from former Councilmember Reed Williams (Council District 8). This SPARK will feature a soccer field surrounded by a quarter-mile long walking trail that will be available for the residents to use during daylight hours after school.
“The challenge in the inner city is always to create parks when there is no open space available. This is an exciting and smart program where we allow our schools and neighbors to come together,” said Councilman Bernal.
For more information, residents can call the District 1 Field Office at 210-207-0900.
