The City Council has approved City Manager Sheryl Sculley’s recommendation of Robbie Greenblum as City Attorney for the City of San Antonio. The City Attorney serves as chief legal advisor to the City Council, City Manager and all City departments, offices and agencies.
Since 2009, Robbie Greenblum has served as Chief of Staff to Mayor Julián Castro and in that capacity; he has worked on various significant initiatives including SA2020, Pre-K 4 SA, CPS Energy/SAWS utility policy issues and economic development projects.
“We’re fortunate to have identified an experienced and knowledgeable lawyer,” said City Manager Sculley. “Robbie has a proven record of success as the chief adviser to the Mayor, and has worked on many key issues and programs that have benefitted the City of San Antonio immensely. His stellar reputation, integrity, and strong work ethic impressed us.”
Greenblum will report to the City Manager and represent the City in all legal proceedings. Outgoing City Attorney Michael Bernard is joining the law firm of Bracewell and Giuliani. His last day with the City will be Dec. 6, 2013.
“As a South Texas native, it is an honor to follow in Michael’s footsteps. I plan to employ the same level of integrity and judgment to the role of representing the City of San Antonio,” said Robbie Greenblum.
Greenblum received his Bachelor of Arts degree and Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Texas, and has been licensed to practice by the State Bar of Texas since 1988. In 2009, he joined the Mayor Castro as his Chief of Staff. While practicing law for more than 20 years, Greenblum’s work addressed business, litigation, non-profit, property tax issues and legal representation regarding immigration and international law matters. Prior to his employment with the City of San Antonio, he worked with various law firms including Illagan & Associates, Quan, Burdette, & Perez, Matthews and Branscomb, Simon Azar-Farr & Associates, and Foster Lewis Langley Gardner & Banack, as well as with the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law of Texas and the Refugee Assistance Council. He has represented clients before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, U.S. District Courts for the Western, Southern and Northern Districts of Texas, and the Board of Immigration Appeals.
