Four leading U.S. mayors will visit San Antonio as part of the Mayors for Educational Excellence Tour (MEET), a first of its kind national education innovation program involving leaders from Denver, Sacramento, Providence and San Antonio. The local visit on Thursday, March 6, and Friday, March 7, will highlight a number of programs helping improve public education as well as community development across San Antonio.
The MEET San Antonio visit will highlight programs such as Pre-K 4 SA and cafécollege, as well as new federal initiatives in the city linked to its designation as a Promise Zone by the White House. Following a Friday town hall with local education stakeholders and community leaders, the mayors will hold availability for all participating press. B-roll and visual opportunities will be available throughout the tour.
The Mayors for Educational Excellence Tour launched in October 2013 in Denver with the goal of gleaning best practices in each of the host cities on education-related issues. The tour’s second stop—Sacramento, CA—in December 2013 highlighted the critical importance of civic engagement for education growth. MEET’s last city visit will be Providence, Rhode Island on April 25. The mayors are scheduled to gather in Lake Placid, NY in May for a summit to conclude the tour and provide insights on lessons learned, policies and programs that work and how to grow these successes city by city across America.
