San Antonio City Council Districts 6 and 8 have appointed new members to the Pre-K 4 SA board of directors. Early childhood education proponents, Lucy Hall and Dr. Sheri Becker Albright, were appointed by City Councilmembers Ray Lopez and Ron Nirenberg, respectively.
Hall and Albright will each serve a two-year term beginning May 31, 2014. The 11-member board of directors is responsible for implementing and overseeing the Pre-K 4 SA initiative.
“We are fortunate to have a supportive board of directors and we are looking forward to the leadership that Ms. Hall and Dr. Albright will provide. They are passionate about Pre-K 4 SA and believe that an early childhood education will give young children the tools they need to succeed,” says Kathy Bruck, CEO of Pre-K 4 SA.
Hall is a retired educator with more than 30 years of experience working for the Edgewood Independent School District (EISD). She began her career as an elementary school teacher and went on to become a curriculum writer, Chapter I reading supervisor, elementary school principal, secondary school principal, and Cluster I administrator. In 1995, she served as the Executive Director of the EISD Elementary Division. Hall was also an adjunct professor at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas.
Albright currently serves as Chair of the Department of Education at Trinity University and is the Murchison Distinguished Professor in Education. Previously, she served as the Executive Director of Education at the Asia Society, and Chief Executive Officer of the Asia Society International Studies Schools Network. She earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Trinity University and her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Teachers College at Columbia University.
