Pre-K 4 SA Education centers have successfully incorporated interactive technology to help students develop math and pre-reading skills, preparing them for kindergarten and beyond. The centers each feature an interactive Smart Board and iPads with quality educational apps and software that is specifically designed for early childhood education curriculum. The unique teaching feature will be included in new classrooms being constructed in the upcoming 2014-2015 school year.
“Most children live in a time where they are already digitally native by the time they enter the program,” said Pre-K 4 SA CEO Kathy Bruck. “Many students already have exposure to several of these technologies at home through their parents or siblings, but we believe getting an educational-focused experience will help young learners become more tech-savvy and academically prepared when entering kindergarten.”
Each Pre-K 4 SA classroom is equipped with four iPads and one Smart Board. The Smart Board is a fully integrated, multi-touch interactive board that can engage up to two students at a time. Pre-K 4 SA Education Centers are upgrading to systems that can accommodate up to four students at the East and West centers opening in the fall of 2014.
“This technology is not only educational for students, but you can see that students thoroughly enjoy using it,” said Pre-K 4 SA South Center Director Belinda Gonzalez. “We want to teach children at a young age that learning is fun, and I think we have accomplished that,” Gonzalez said. “You’ll find the students laughing, drawing, dancing, singing, spelling and writing while using the interactive apps on the Smart Boards and iPads. They enter the program with individual backgrounds, knowledge and skill levels when it comes to technology, and we are able to see these skills develop every day.”
Teachers help students utilize the technology by using strengths-based teaching methods that build on a child’s existing competency to help them acquire new skills and knowledge. The interactive applications and software used with the iPads and Smart Boards are based on developmentally appropriate pre-K standards, and are specifically designed for early childhood education, focusing on mathematical thinking, science and pre-reading skills.
