As part of my commitment to the military, I am required to attend professional military education training. As such, last year, I requested to attend military school to further my development as an officer in the Air Force Reserve. These slots are hard to come by for Reservists, but I was fortunate to be given a slot. With the mayoral vacancy, I had hoped to reschedule, but was informed this weekend that I would need to honor my commitment and begin training at the beginning of August.
It is regrettable that the timing leaves me unable to continue my pursuit of the interim appointment, but I am very pleased to have four very qualified colleagues who are stepping up to the plate.
I'm very excited about this opportunity to further my development as an officer and I have begun the process of selecting a community leader to represent District 7 while I am at military school.
My military commitment is one I take very seriously and I am honored to serve. I look forward to putting on the uniform every day for a few weeks and learning even more about being a better officer.
