SAN ANTONIO (June 29, 2014) — Pre-K 4 SA has commitments with 1,500 students for the second academic year, with nearly a month before the semester begins on Aug. 25, 2014. All available classroom spots for Pre-K 4 SA’s 2014 fall semester are filled, demonstrating the continued need for high-quality pre-kindergarten programs in San Antonio.
“We have an opportunity to create a path of success for our youth from early education to higher education,” said Pre-K 4 SA CEO Kathy Bruck. “As we prepare for a school year of full enrollment, I believe that we are well on our way with this goal.”
More than 3,200 San Antonio families—twice the number than in 2013—applied for their child to participate in the full-day program at one of four Pre-K 4 SA Education Centers, including the new West and East Education Centers. A streamlined application and selection process allowed for an easier and more efficient experience for applicants.
“Excitement for our second academic year is building, fueled by the enthusiasm of Pre-K 4 SA families from the recently completed inaugural class, our dedicated staff of professionals, and our school district partners, whose commitment to high-quality Pre-K has helped make our program successful,” Mayor Ivy R. Taylor said. “The strength of the partnership with the participating school districts, which account for 90 percent of Pre-K 4 SA students, is evident in our strong enrollment numbers.”
Applications for the new school year were accepted through June 8, 2014. A lottery conducted on June 10, 2014, selected students from eligible applicants to fill the 1,500 available spots. Families who applied but were not selected in the June 10 lottery were placed on a secondary list and will be contacted if a spot becomes available during the upcoming school year.
