SAN ANTONIO (Aug. 7, 2014) – Councilman Diego M. Bernal, District 1, and Edison High School are partnering again to host the annual District 1 Back-to-School Wellness Fair to support students and their families. The fair will take place on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2014, at the Edison High School campus, 701 Santa Monica, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“The smartest investment the City can make is in the future of its youth. District 1 is proud to play its part and invites the community to join us as we prepare our students for the new school year,” said Councilman Bernal.
Each attending student will receive a free backpack with school supplies, while supplies last. Haircuts by students of the Aveda Institute and information on free immunization resources will also be offered. A free breakfast and lunch will be supplied by the San Antonio Food Bank for students. Absolutely Everything Catering will provide lunches for the students’ family members and guardians.
A number of community partners and wellness organizations will contribute with their program information on education, healthy living, and wellness. Go Lit Now will be handing out free children books. Students will also be able to explore the San Antonio Public Library’s fun filled book caravan. Parents and guardians will have access to information on extra-curricular programs for children, financial literacy, and utility assistance.
