District 4 Councilman Rey Saldaña will host the first-ever “Books & Bites” mobile book store this Saturday, June 1 at the CentroMed Palo Alto Clinic, 9011 Poteet Jourdanton Hwy, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is open to the public and free to attend.
Since the closure of the bookstore in South Park Mall, the south side of San Antonio has been left without a major bookstore and community members have expressed the need for literary outlets.
“I put this event together not only to provide Southside residents with the opportunity to conveniently browse and purchase books near their homes, but to also show vendors that there is a great deal of interest in having a bookstore on the south side of San Antonio once again,” said Councilman Saldaña. “We have the fastest-growing university in the country, Texas A&M San Antonio, and Palo Alto College nearing 10,000 students in our backyard. Resources will be important to a growing student base on the south side.”
In addition to the mobile bookstore, this community gathering will include local author readings and book signing, food trucks and a performance by acoustic duo Optic Arrest.
