Possible Delays for Residential and Commercial Projects

In an effort to help streamline your project we have compiled the most frequent situations that can delay a residential or commercial project. We encourage you take a moment to review the typical situations that can on a project so you can enhance your project planning.


  1. No plans on job site
  2. Smoke detectors required
  3. Door landings required
  4. Studs over-bored
  5. Foundation bolts required
  6. Weep Holes required
  7. Hand/guard rails required
  8. Purlins and struts required
  9. Fire blocking required
  10. Stairs rise and run
  1. House locked and unable to perform inspection
  2. Work covered up (sheetrocked/insulated)
  3. Too many conductors in a box
  4. Nail plates needed to protect conductors
  5. Wall spacing of outlets too far
  6. Spacing of outlets at kitchen counter too far
  7. In-use weatherproof covers not installed
  8. AC over current protection too large
  9. Jacuzzi motor access door not provided
  10. Ground rod not properly installed

  1. Smoke Detection not sufficient in return air design for systems exceeding capacity.
  2. Type I Hood, Type I duct clearances and grease duct enclosures are not sufficient.
  3. Equipment and appliances on elevated roofs exceeding heights 16’ above grade are not provided with permanent ladder access or ladder does not extend to grade.
  4. Guards are not provided where appliances and equipment are located within 10 feet of roof edge.
  5. Duct length of clothes dryer exceeds the maximum allowable length.
  6. Shut off damper controls are not indicated on plans and should be of the gravity of motorized type per IECC.
  7. Duct and plenum insulation r-values are not designated on plans or do not meet minimum requirements per IECC.
  8. Source capture exhaust system(s) and ventilation rates not provided or do not meet the minimum exhausting rates for nail salons.
  9. Location of exhaust outlets and termination clearances are not met or are not provided on roof layout.
  10. Materials located in plenum space are not identified as plenum rated or not approved.
