Today San Antonio District 7 City Councilman Cris Medina released a statement indicating his support of the proposed Non-Discrimination Ordinance.
Medina stated, "I am supporting the proposed ordinance because I oppose discrimination in all forms. Over the past few months, I have spent dozens of hours meeting with people on both sides of the issue throughout District 7 to hear their views on the issue and how discrimination impacts families. While there may be differing opinions about how we achieve the goal, the overwhelming majority of people I spoke with agree with the primary purpose of the proposed ordinance: ensuring that every family in San Antonio is treated equally. As we respect the rights and beliefs of the LGBT community, we must also make certain that we respect the rights and beliefs of the faith community.
I am confident that Mayor Julián Castro, Council, and City staff are committed to further improving the language in the proposed ordinance so that all San Antonians are respected and treated equally under the law. As a military man, I am also moved to support it for the protections provided to veterans."
