San Antonio City Clerk, Leticia M. Vacek, will serve as a panelist in a session entitled “Communications: Archiving Your History” on Friday, July 12, 2013. The session is part of the 57th Annual Sister Cities International Conference being held in San Antonio for the first time. As a panelist, Vacek will share her experiences, best practices and provide guidance on the importance of preserving an organization’s history and how to ensure that important historical content is saved, stored and preserved. Fellow panelists include Sharon Receveur, Global Envoy for Sister Cities International, and Ruth Hodges Fraser, City Clerk for the City of Virginia Beach and State Coordinator for Sister Cities International.
“The Sister Cities International Conference is a great opportunity to showcase San Antonio’s rich history and best practices to attendees from all over the world,” said Vacek. “I am honored to have been invited to share with these international attendees how the City of San Antonio preserves its rich history.”
Since being appointed San Antonio City Clerk in 2004, Vacek implemented the City’s first Archival Program by digitizing various collections including the City’s first electronic maps, minutes, ordinances, elections, historical figures and other documents. She has also restored, reproduced and preserved penned letters by General Santa Anna and President of Mexico Porfirio Diaz. She implemented the City’s first electronic Campaign Filing System and the City’s Passport Acceptance Facility, which has generated more than $700,000 in new revenue. In 2009, Vacek was named Texas Municipal Clerk of the Year by State of Texas Municipal Clerks, Inc.
The 57th Annual Sister Cities International Conference takes place July 11-13 with more than 500 community leaders, citizen diplomats, business executives, educators, mayors, and municipal officials from the U.S. and around the world to celebrate and promote the sustaining relationships of internationally-linked cities.
