Thousands came to downtown San Antonio over the Labor Day weekend to experience the concerts and activities at Festival People en Español. Produced by the legendary 19-time Grammy Award-winning musician and producer, Emilio Estefan, the heavyweight performances at the Alamodome were bolstered by an equally impressive celebrity roster at free daytime activities at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. For example, Eddie “Piolín” Sotelo, one of Univision Radio’s most popular radio personalities whose “Piolín por la Mañana” is syndicated across the United States in more than 53 markets, hosted the Festival’s Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza on Saturday Aug. 31. The Mariachi Extravaganza is the largest group and vocal camp in the nation.
This year’s Festival expanded the talent line-up for day and night events at the two-day celebration that honors Hispanic entertainment, culture and community. Mexican superstar, actress and singer Maite Perroni kicked off the promo tour for her first solo album with a performance at the Alamodome on Saturday, Aug. 31. Eddie “Piolín” Sotelo, Noel Torres, Carla Teresa Mauri, Lucía Navarro, Gloria Estefan, Alejandro Fernandez and Sebastien De La Cruz also joined an all-star lineup of day and nighttime talent at the Festival.
The presenting sponsor for Festival People en Español 2013 is Target and major sponsors include Coca-Cola, Jeep and MundoFox. Official sponsors are Interjet, HBO Latino, Pine Sol, the City of San Antonio and the San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau.
