The new health care law — called the Affordable Care Act — was passed in 2010. The law is changing the way some Americans get health coverage. Starting in 2014, most people will be required to have health insurance or pay a penalty. Coverage can be through your employer, an insurance company, a government program such as Medicaid or Medicare, or insurance bought on the health insurance marketplace exchange. Enrollment begins Oct. 1. Many people who buy their plan on the Marketplace can get help covering the costs. Low cost or free plans are also available depending on your income.
