San Antonio Housing Authority (SAHA) won the $29.7 million U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Choice Neighborhood Grant in an effort to revitalize the Wheatley Courts Area of East San Antonio.
“For the last three years, we have been focusing on revitalization efforts in East San Antonio. This grant allows us to rebuild the Wheatley Courts area into a viable neighborhood where families and children can prosper,” said District 4 City Councilwoman Taylor. “I am extremely excited about this wonderful opportunity and look forward to the future of East San Antonio.”
The $29.7 million HUD Choice Neighborhoods Grant is focused on transforming distressed neighborhoods and publicly assisted projects into viable and sustainable mixed-income neighborhoods by providing housing improvements with adequate services to schools, public assets, transportation and access to jobs.
A press conference will be held today, Thursday, Dec. 13, 2012 at 4:30 p.m. at the Wheatley Courts Administration Building, 906 N. Mittiman. The community is invited to attend.
