It’s official, the San Antonio Fire Museum Society is making history. On Aug. 17, 2012 it received the keys to its new home. The three-phase transformation of the historic Central Fire Station #1, located across the street from the Alamo, began on the ground floor with an exhibit area in which pieces of the San Antonio Fire Department’s heritage are displayed. Phase II and III include the creation of a Children’s Fire Education Center and a Interactive Fire Theatre where visitors can learn the basics of fire safety and experience first-hand the sights, sounds and smells associated with a house fire without the danger of injury.
