Each year, the City of San Antonio develops a Balanced Operating and Capital Budget. The City operates in a fiscal year that begins on Oct. 1 and ends on Sept. 30.
The process of developing the City of San Antonio Annual Operating and Capital Budget is a comprehensive effort that involves input from the Mayor and City Council, residents and City staff.
Suggestions and ideas for the City’s budget or on how to improve service delivery, may be submitted in English or Spanish to the Budget Input Box.
Budget Input Boxes can be found in all City facilities, such as libraries and Community Link Centers, or at sanantonio.gov/budget. Additionally, beginning this year, there will be posters displayed with QR codes in libraries, Community Centers, and other City facilities, that can be scanned with a smartphone, and community members can provide their ideas directly from their Apple or Android mobile devices.
All of the suggestions that fall within the scope of the services the City provides will be reviewed and considered by City staff for inclusion in the FY 2014 budget which will be proposed to City Council in August. The Budget Input Box is available to citizens year-round.
In June, the City held Community Budget Input Hearings to obtain input for the development of the proposed budget.
Following these community hearings, a budget policy and goal-setting session with the Mayor and City Council will be held to provide input on Council priorities for the budget development process. The City Manager presents the Proposed Budget to the Mayor and City Council in August.
City Council Budget work sessions will take place after the budget is proposed. At these sessions, City staff will review the budget proposals with the Mayor and City Council in detail.
Additional public hearings will be scheduled in August after the budget is proposed to allow for community feedback on the Proposed Budget.
After considering all the recommendations and receiving input from residents and community groups, City Council will adopt a balanced budget for Fiscal Year 2014.
