Bring the entire family and join us for the biggest and best party in town celebrating our nation’s birth and our freedom. On Thursday, July 4th, families are invited to participate in a fun-filled day of games, food and musical entertainment. The City’s official July Fourth Celebration is a free event sponsored by the San Antonio Parks Foundation, in cooperation with the San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department. As always, the highlight of the celebration is the H-E-B Fireworks Extravaganza at 9 p.m.
The event kicks off with the H-E-B 4k Fun Run/Walk for Peeps and Pets beginning at the Woodlawn Lake Island House parking lot at 8:30 a.m. Participants can register at getmeregistered.com. The cost is $20. Following the run, everyone is encouraged to celebrate this national holiday in their own unique San Antonio way by dressing up in their finest patriotic costumes and participating in the popular Children’s Red, White and Blue Parade and Costume Contest, that kicks off at approximately 11 a.m.
Families who want to participate in the parade are asked to gather at the Woodlawn Lake Gym at the intersection of Cincinnati and Alexander at 10 a.m. Parade participants will be judged for best costume, most patriotic, best bike and best group. Everyone is invited to join in and winners will be announced on the main stage immediately following the parade.
Opening ceremonies, featuring city dignitaries and event sponsors, will begin at noon on the stage at the west end of the park. During the daytime, the best of San Antonio’s local talent will be featured, leading up to the energetic and patriotic U.S. Air Force Band of the West at 7:30 pm.
Children are invited to enjoy the Rio San Antonio Cruises All-American Kid’s Zone, which will feature carnival rides and games. More than 20 vendors will offer food and beverages for sale throughout the day.
The celebration also features the H-E-B Military Appreciation Zone, located near the carnival. The Military Appreciation Zone, for active and retired military families, will be open from noon to 2 p.m. with lunch served from noon to 2 p.m. or until supplies last. A valid military I.D. must be shown for entrance.
