City Councilwoman Leticia Ozuna and District 3 staff members will be hosting a Patriot Day Senior Health Fair from 9 to 11 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 11. The special event will take place at the Bode Community Center, 900 Rigsby Avenue at Gevers.
The keynote speaker for the red, white and blue-themed gathering is Dr. Eleanor Duke of WellMed. She will lead a discussion about health and lifestyle issues affecting seniors in our community.
"I invite senior members of our Southeast Side community to come out to the Bode Community Center on September 11 for this special event," said Councilwoman Ozuna. "We are pleased to share information with you on health, welfare and other programs that can improve your quality of life. And we hope that many of you come to the event and take advantage of all the opportunities for seniors offered here in our community."
The two-hour event will include free health screenings by the WellMed Medical Group and no-cost dental screenings provided by the Highland Hills Dental Center and Dr. Sandra Burgman. Many health-care providers, senior community groups and government organizations will have representatives at this event.
Some of the organizations that plan to share information with guests are: Southeast Community Outreach for Older People or SCOOP, Southwest Community Outreach for Older People or SWOOP, the Silver Sneakers Fitness Program, Golden Outlook Insurance Services, the Elvira Cisneros Senior Community Center by WellMed, San Antonio Parks & Recreation, San Antonio Water System, CPS Energy, the Texas Department of Aging& Disability Services (DADS), San Antonio Fire Department, San Antonio Fire Museum Society , United Healthcare Medicare Solutions, Primrose retirement communities/senior centers, and Project MEND (Medical Equipment Network for those with Disabilities).
"I look forward to meeting seniors and other members of the community at our Patriot Day Senior Health Fair," added Councilwoman Ozuna. "It should be a very enjoyable and educational event."
