With the holidays just around the corner, the City of San Antonio is inviting downtown business owners to participate in Mayor Castro’s 3rd Annual Light Up Downtown Holiday Contest from Nov. 29 to Dec. 19, 2013.
All downtown business owners are encouraged to participate and compete for the most decorative and creative holiday light display. The contest provides family-friendly entertainment, and encourages tourists and locals to visit Downtown during the holidays.
“Light Up Downtown is one of the ways we are making San Antonio’s downtown more lively, welcoming and family-friendly," said Mayor Julián Castro. The entry deadline for the contest is November 15.
The contest is open to all downtown businesses. Participants will showcase the exteriors of their buildings with creative holiday lighting displays and compete in a variety of categories including “Greenest Lighting Display,” “People’s Choice-Best Use of Space,” “Critic’s Choice & People’s Choice- Storefront,” and “Critic’s Choice & People’s Choice- Building.”
People can vote for their favorite lighting displays online at LightUpDowntownSA.com. Winners will be recognized at the “Celebrate San Antonio” New Year’s Eve event.
The displays will be lit through early January. The program is sponsored by The Mayor’s Office, the City’s Downtown Operations Department, and media partner KABB-TV Fox 29 “Daytime at Nine” and News 4 WOAI-TV. To participate, call (210) 207-8477.
