On Sept. 26, the San Antonio Public Library hosted a playground “build day” at the Carver Branch Library. Volunteers joined library staff and city officials to build a new playground for the families at Carver. The playground design was based on drawings from San Antonio children who were asked to draw what they would like to have included. Dozens of volunteers spent a day measuring, digging, lifting and hammering to make this project happen.
An official ribbon-cutting took place with city leaders as children took over the playground. Over its lifetime, this single playground will benefit more than 24,000 families in the area.
The partnership included the office of District 2 Councilwoman Ivy R. Taylor, the San Antonio Parks and Recreation department, the San Antonio Public Library Foundation, Foresters (insurance provider) and KaBoom!, a non-profit that builds playgrounds across the country, and the San Antonio Public Library.
