Residents visiting the Central Library will notice giant white walls blocking off what used to be a space packed full of computers that were available for public use. Behind these walls, great things are happening.
Funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the San Antonio Public Library is building a new technology corridor. It will be a space that will house all adult Internet computers with the exception of those already available at the Jobs and Small Business Center and the Texana/Genealogy department. Floor plans, furnishings, computers, reference desk design and construction plans have all been approved. There also will be a public computer training area, faster Internet capacity, and a technology lounge. The Teen Services department, which resides directly adjacent to the Tech Corridor, will be getting new computer tables and other furnishings. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of the summer.
