The Market Street Realignment project began in April and crews have already made great progress. In order to minimize construction time, Market Street from Bowie Street to IH-37 will close to all traffic in September 2013. The closure will remain in place for approximately 11 months. Detour maps are available online at the CIMS website so people who drive in the area can plan ahead to make sure their commute has a smooth transition. You can also visit CIMS Facebook page to learn about this project and other Capital Improvements Management Services projects around the City.
The Market Street Realignment project consists of realigning Market Street to run parallel to Commerce Street, adjusting the roadway parallel to IH-37 that extends from Commerce Street south to César Chávez Boulevard and creating a pedestrian walkway on Commerce Street under IH-37. The project includes construction of a new roadway, installation of sidewalks, bike lanes, traffic signals, a storm drain system, utilities and landscape improvements.
