Enjoy an award winning dance and musical performance that captures the flavor and passion of San Antonio and its cultural roots in Mexico this summer during the month of July. ¡BRAVO! An Evening of Song and Dance features the Parks and Recreation Department’s Fandango and Alamotion Dance Troupes performing Mexican Folkloric, tap, jazz, hip hop and Latin style dance.
The City’s youth band, TAKE NOTE, will once again accompany the dance performances while showcasing the band. Local radio personality Elizabeth Ruiz will serve as emcee.
Seven performances are scheduled for 8 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday nights, July 3 through July 25, at the Arneson River Theatre in La Villita. Local guest artists are featured each week.
“¡BRAVO! is one of the best entertainment values in town for both tourists and locals alike,” says Cultural Program Manager Mona Lisa Montgomery. “The audience will truly enjoy the drama of traditional folkloric numbers, passionate vocals, outstanding live music and high energy contemporary dance routines, all reflecting the rich diversity and heritage of our City. It's pure entertainment San Antonio Style!”
The Fandango and Alamotion Dance Troupes are composed of young dancers who participate in an audition held annually in August that is open to all dancers. Both troupes perform throughout the year representing the Parks and Recreation Department at various events citywide.
TAKE NOTE, a pre-professional music ensemble for youth ages 13 to 18, was recently recognized by the Texas Recreation and Park Society with an Arts and Humanities Award for outstanding programming.
General admission is free however, donations are always appreciated. Doors open at 7 p.m. for the 8 p.m. performance. Proceeds from donations benefit the youth participating in the Parks and Recreation Department cultural programs. Inclement weather can lead to cancellation of shows.
