Fans were part of a history-making event when George Strait’s final show on the 2013 leg of The Cowboy Rides Away Tour, set the record for the Alamodome’s largest attendance ever. A capacity crowd of 73,086 turned out to see the “King of Country Music” perform 30 songs, including such classic hits as “Marina del Rey” and “The Chair,” during a memorable two-hour set. The sold-out show marked Strait’s eighth performance at the Alamodome since 1993. Special guests, Martina McBride and Miranda Lambert, opened the show.
“George Strait is an icon in the world of country music, and it was truly special for the Alamodome to be included on his farewell tour,” said Nicholas Langella, Alamodome General Manager. “We would like to thank the Messina Group for bringing such an outstanding lineup to San Antonio.”
A San Antonio favorite and country music living legend, George Strait will retire from active touring after the second leg of the Cowboy Rides Away Tour wraps in 2014.
