HVHC, Inc. to Open Optical Manufacturing and Distribution Center in San Antonio
New state-of-the-art facility will be the company’s second in the San Antonio area, fifth in the U.S.

SAN ANTONIO (April 11, 2013) – HVHC, Inc., the largest wholly owned and operated U.S.-based optical company, and a leader in “reshoring” (regenerating manufacturing jobs in the U.S.), has announced that it will open a new state-of-the-art optical manufacturing and distribution facility in San Antonio. Scheduled to open in late 2013, the 120,000 square foot facility is located at 655 Richland Hills, on the west side of San Antonio.

The new facility, the second of its kind for HVHC in the San Antonio area , will bring up to 600 new jobs to the San Antonio area. Once fully operational, the Richland Hills facility will custom make more than two million pairs of eyeglasses per year—on par with the output of HVHC’s original San Antonio area manufacturing lab, located in suburban Schertz.

“HVHC at its core is as committed to driving innovation and the creation of well-paying manufacturing jobs in the U.S., as it is to providing the highest quality vision products and services to our customers,” David Holmberg, CEO of HVHC, Inc., said. “We are particularly proud to bring this new facility to San Antonio, the home base of our company, and a city that HVHC is dedicated to support in its vision of economic growth and redevelopment.”

In 2012, HVHC relocated its corporate headquarters of national optical retailer Visionworks (formerly Eye Care Centers of America—EyeMasters in Texas) and the New York-based operations of Davis Vision, its managed vision care arm, to downtown San Antonio. This latest facility, which will custom make eyeglasses for Visionworks stores and its customers nationwide - is a continuation of HVHC’s commitment to supporting San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro’s SA2020 development initiative for the City of San Antonio.

“We are pleased to partner with HVHC to bring 750 more jobs to San Antonio. HVHC, with its deep-rooted history in San Antonio, has committed to our SA2020 goals of enhancing our community’s economic competitiveness and creating a vibrant downtown by bringing good jobs to their new manufacturing facility and headquarters. We look forward to our continued partnership with HVHC,” said Mayor Julián Castro.

In addition to its San Antonio area facilities, HVHC’s Davis Vision also operates leading-edge optical manufacturing and distribution centers outside Philadelphia and two in New York State. All told, the five facilities will manufacture 75% of all HVHC eyeglasses per year - which is over 6 million pairs - and provide a total of over 1,500 jobs, further demonstration of HVHC’s leadership in the reshoring of quality, high-tech manufacturing jobs in the U.S.

HVHC will also expand its downtown headquarters by leasing additional space at the IBC Centre and will create 150 more jobs in San Antonio’s center city. All City of San Antonio economic development grant projects undergo in depth financial due diligence. Incentives were offered to HVHC to secure the project, as the City of San Antonio was in competition with other sites in Texas. The economic development grant contracts undergo extensive monitoring to ensure the company is in compliance with job creation reports and reported wages.
