Welcome to the City of San Antonio Fleet Services Department.
Volatile fuel prices, increased fiscal constraints and higher expectations of environmental sustainability are major factors affecting the delivery of quality fleet services. In May 2007, the City Manager elevated Fleet Services from a division to a stand alone department. This change is “an effort to facilitate improved; more responsive customer service and provide greater focus of fleet services as an important administrative function of the City.”
As an internal service fund with an annual operating budget of $45M and a vehicle replacement fund with annual purchases of $28M, fleet is critical to the City’s primary mission of providing quality services at optimum costs. Fleet Service’s goal is to be a “one-source” organization that offers essential fleet services including acquisition and disposal, preventive maintenance, repairs, regulatory compliance, pool vehicles, refueling services and best fleet utilization services. Our list of customers include certain outside agencies, including Bexar County Sheriff’s Office and Lackland Independent School District for refueling and San Antonio Housing Authority for refueling, maintenance and repair services.
The Fleet Department consists of four divisions: Management – five staff members; Acquisitions - nine staff members; Fiscal - five staff members; and Operations – 136 staff members. In addition to one Central Garage and one Police Garage, there are 5 satellite garages located throughout the City providing on site services to our customers. We operate 14 fuel dispensing sites for diesel, unleaded; propane and CNG powered vehicles and equipment. We maintain 7 car washes. The department also oversees the planning, licensing, titling, preparation of specifications, acquisitions, remarketing and disposition of 4,973 vehicles and equipment.
Finally, Fleet Services has been innovative in designing and implementing best business practices to better insure quality fleet services at the best competitive prices. In recognition of these efforts, Fleet Services was recognized by 100 Best Fleets in North America as one of the top 10 Fleets in the country. This web site is intended to provide general information about our department's activities, and to inform our partners about our planned purchases and related activities.
