Community Outreach
Tobacco Prevention and Control Program staff and SA-TPCC members conduct activities throughout Bexar County. Presentations, classes, and information are available depending on the level of demand.
Stop Using Tobacco
Free and low-cost resources are available to help people quit using tobacco. The quitline, 1-877-YESQUIT, offers free tobacco cessation counseling. Bexar County residents may qualify for a free 2-month supply of nicotine-replacement therapy (patches, gum, or lozenges). Quitline services are also available in Spanish. Health Services Providers
Tobacco Prevention staff are available to provide training in tobacco cessation techniques and how to bill for and be reimbursed for those services. Contact the program office for assistance and visit www.yesquit.org/toolkit/ for other resources.
Employers and Worksites
Tobacco Prevention staff are available to consult with employers on how to promote tobacco-free worksites. Materials are available to promote tobacco cessation among employees and to assist employers develop tobacco-free worksite policies. The Tobacco Prevention and Control Program works in partnership with non-profit organizations, health systems, substance abuse centers, and advocacy groups across San Antonio to reduce the burden of tobacco-related illness in our community.
Metro Health receives a grant from the Texas Department of State Health Services to fund a tobacco prevention and control program and a community-based coalition. San Antonio Tobacco Control and Prevention Coalition (SA-TPCC), to lead the effort.
