1. Can you come spray my yard for insects?
Answer: No, the City does not treat private property for vermin or insects. However, staff from the Vector Control program can inspect your yard and make recommendations.
2. I have bees in the wall of my house, what do I do?
Answer: Do not disturb them. The City does not treat private property for bees. Contact a licensed pest control service to remove them from your structure.
3. I found a beehive in a tree in a City of San Antonio park, whom do I call?
Answer: You can report this to 311 or you can call Metro Health's Vector Control Program directly at 207-8853. A Vector Control technician will respond to the problem.
4. I have bats at my residence, what do I do?
Answer: The City does not have authority to treat private property for bats. The Vector Control program can only inspect your private property and make recommendations to the property owner with the owner’s permission. You will need to hire a private company to treat your property. If the bats are living in an occupied dwelling, it is recommended that they be excluded from the building by sealing all entry points. Bat species are protected by State Law and should be left alone if they are not in an occupied building and not a threat to humans.
5. I have mosquitoes on my property. Where are they coming from?
Answer: It is very possible that they are originating from your own property. It is very important to make sure that you do not have any standing water on the ground or containers that are holding water. These are the main places that mosquitoes breed on private property. If you want advise on mosquito breeding on private property, call Vector Control at 207-8853.
6. I found a dead bird, what do I do with it?
Answer: Do not pick it up with your bare hands. If you find a dead bird on your property or in a public area, you can call 207-8853 and ask for Vector Control staff to assess the situation.
