What is WIC?

WIC is the non-emergency Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children. If you qualify for WIC, you can receive food benefits (redeemable at grocery stores for certain nutritious foods), nutrition education and counseling, breastfeeding support and health care referrals at no cost. WIC services are available to pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding women, as well as infants and children younger than 5 years old.

WIC Eligibility Requirements

  1. To participate you must be a:
    • Pregnant woman
    • Postpartum woman (up to six months after delivery)
    • Breastfeeding woman (up to one year after delivery)
    • Parents (including single mothers and fathers), step-parents, guardians, and foster parents of children under age 5.

2.  Meet Household Income: Texas WIC Income Guidelines
3.  Have Nutritional Issues:  Assessed at your First Appointment - Could be a variety of deficiencies.
4.  Live in Texas:  WIC clients usually receive services in the county where they live.  U.S. citizenship is not a requirement for eligibility.  You may attend any clinic you wish to attend.  Visit our Clinic Locator to find the Clinic most convenient for you. 

How do I enroll?
Enrolling in your local WIC Program is really simple. Here is how:

  • Call your local WIC Clinic to make an appointment. For locations call 207-4906 or review the chart below.  
  • When you call the clinic, they will set your appointment time, date, and tell you what documents to bring to your first appointment.

You will be asked to provide:

  • Identification:  Picture ID, Birth Certificate, Voter Registration Card, Social Security Card, Immunization Records, Birth Certificate, Driver’s License, Military ID, or Student ID
  • Proof of Income:  Check Stub from last 60 Days, Current letter from employer (with phone number and address), Proof of Child Support, Social Security, Disability Award Letter, Medicaid Card, TANF, or SNAP/Food Stamps (for the applicant).
  • Proof of Residency: Utility Bill, Rent Receipt, Lease Agreement.
  • If you are enrolling your child, bring him/her to the appointment.

What Do I Get at WIC?

WIC foods are specifically selected for their high nutritional value as well as for their relatively low cost. What is the EBT Card?
The Electronic Benefits Transfer card (EBT) makes shopping easier, replacing the paper vouchers. Participants are able to buy WIC foods as needed, provided they have a positive balance.
