Metro Health and Goodwill Industries partner for
Back-to-School Immunizations and Back Pack Giveaway

Immunizations available at the Good Health! at Goodwill Clinic and community events

With only 19 days left until the first day of school, time for back-to-school immunizations is running out. To help families meet State requirements to attend school or daycare or live in on-campus university housing, Metro Health, Goodwill Industries and University Health System (UHS) came together today to highlight immunization services and community wide back-to-school events.

The partners shared those details at the Good Health! at Goodwill clinic as children receiving immunizations there discovered they will get a free back pack donated by Grande Communications. The giveaway takes place today only.

“Our partnership with Goodwill Industries is a great community initiative, especially during this peak period of getting ready for school,” said Dr. Fernando Guerra, director of Metro Health. “We are proud to offer a one stop experience where the community can get immunized and go back-to-school shopping all in one location. It’s also important to recognize other community partners such as UHS, CentroMed, and Communicare who are all contributing to this community wide immunization effort.”

Good Health! at Goodwill, located inside the Goodwill store at Loop 410 and Blanco, is a public-private partnership between Metro Health and Goodwill Industries. Since opening in March 2007, the clinic has provided nearly 20,000 vaccinations.

“Making sure a child receives all of his or her recommended immunizations on time is one of the most important things parents can do to protect their child's health,” said Bob Dugas, President/CEO of Goodwill Industries. “Through the Good Health! at Goodwill initiative, we are able to offer families accessibility and affordability to make sure they have the resources they need to care for their children.”

The clinic is open daily by appointment with extended hours available every weekday except Wednesday. Immunizations also are available at Metro Health’s main immunization center at 345 W. Commerce with walks-in accepted in the morning.

Metro Health also is partnering with Cox Radio station KISS FM and Christus Santa Rosa for Shots for Kids on Saturday, August 21 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Norris Conference Center Red Oak Ballroom, 4522 Fredericksburg Rd.
