Metro Health Day on the Plaza

National Public Health Week features community wellness fair on Main Plaza

San Antonio’s Public Health Team will celebrate National Public Health Week with a community wellness fair highlighting a variety of Metro Health programs and services as well as two physical fitness sessions. The free event, Metro Health Day, is scheduled for Wednesday, April 7 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Main Plaza, 115 N. Main Street.

Thirteen key public health programs will be on display, providing residents and visitors an opportunity to learn and participate through interactive booths, games, informational handouts and giveaways. Immunizations, nutrition, food safety, tobacco cessation, and control of preventable diseases are some of the highlighted topic areas of the fair. Other public health initiatives that keep this community safe will be on display such as air monitoring, emergency preparedness and laboratory testing demonstrations.

As Metro Health moves forward with a major campaign to address obesity, the fair will provide the public an opportunity to participate in two physical fitness sessions. Gentle Wellness is offering a Tai Chi class from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. followed by a workout with Fit for the King from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Participants can get their weight and height measurements, a body mass index (BMI) chart and take home valuable tips on how to build and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Free H1N1 vaccinations will be available as well.
