D.R. Healthy Meals, a new restaurant focusing on healthy carry-out, curbside service or delivery, is adopting the ¡Por Vida! program. The restaurant uses seasonal, hand-selected ingredients and sustainably farmed proteins with no added hormones, antibiotics fillers or preservatives.
¡Por Vida! meals will be offered daily, including selections such as panko-crusted cod with tomato basil relish, cabernet balsamic burger with sautéed mushrooms and onions. Gluten-free options include beat and brown rice sliders, portabella mushroom sandwich with red pepper sauce.
“Helping San Antonio make meal choices which contribute to better health is a passion of mine,” says DR Healthy Meals owner Rochelle Fulton. “The ¡Por Vida! program shares the same commitment to help our city make better choices that contribute to a better lifestyle through food.”
DR Healthy Meals will celebrate their grand opening as well as the Por Vida! launch Saturday, October 5th from 11am-2pm at their location on 13127 El Sendero, San Antonio, Texas 78233.
A ¡Por Vida! registered dietitian analyzed several ¡Por Vida! approved meals to be served at the restaurant. All these meal options follow the strict ¡Por Vida! nutritional criteria where a meal cannot exceed 700 calories, 23 grams of fat, 8 grams of saturated fat, 0.5 grams of trans fat, 750 mg of sodium and no fried foods.
The ¡Por Vida! campaign was launched in 2009 by The Healthy Restaurants Coalition, a partnership between the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District, the San Antonio Restaurant Association and the San Antonio Dietetics Association to promote healthier food choices in restaurants and spread good nutrition within the community.
The majority of ¡Por Vida!’s 23 partners include traditional restaurants like Jim’s, Luby’s, Pico de Gallo, Delicious Tamales, Johnny Carino’s, The Egg and I, Guadalupe Street Coffee, Estela’s, Zedric’s, Fruit Fusionz, Corner Bakery, Papouli’s Greek Grill and McDonald’s. Business partners include NuStar’s Grill on the Hill, UTSA Roadrunner Cafe; Security Service Federal Credit Union’s corporate headquarter employee café, University Hospital, San Antonio Food Bank’s Catalyst Catering, New Forest Estates,
Baptist Health System, Valero, Children’s Hospital of San Antonio and Morning Side Ministries Retirement Community dining facility.
