The SABGH leadership, in collaboration with the Mayor’s Fitness Council, announces the 2014 Healthy Workplace Recognition Program (HWRP) and invites local employers of all types and sizes to apply for recognition by their peers, Metro Health and the Office of Mayor Castro for their efforts to promote a healthy workforce. Applications are due Apr. 8, 2014 and can be found online at: www.fitcitysa.com/en-us/worksites/workplacerecognition.aspx.
The 2014 program marks the fourth opportunity for local employers to apply for the Healthy Workplace designation since the program began as a pilot in 2010. The leaders of the SABGH and Mayor’s Fitness Council expect an even greater response to the call for applications since last year. In 2013, a total of 37 local employers applied for the HWRP, and awardees received an engraved plaque and a certificate of award from Mayor Castro during the awards ceremony at City Council chambers last May.
The HWRP assesses employee wellness programs in the areas of organizational culture, health promotion and education, physical activity, nutrition, smoking and tobacco use, and health benefits design. Three levels of recognition include bronze, silver and gold. There is no limit to the number of awards that can qualify for each level.
Employers looking for ideas on wellness initiatives applicable to the worksite setting are encouraged to visit FitCitySA.com and check out its resources available for download. For more information visit: www.fitcitysa.com/en-us/worksites.aspx.
