ALA Notable Books - Each year the American Library Association Notable Books Council puts together this annotated list of about 24 fiction, non-fiction and poetry books for the adult reader.

The Modern Library Board's 100 Best Novels - The controversial list of the Modern Library Board's selections for the best English-language novels of the century. The site also invites readers to vote for their choices of the century's best, and the "Readers' 100 Best" list is presented alongside the "Board's 100 Best."

The 100 Best Lesbian and Gay Novels - A panel of fourteen prominent gay novelists and scholars voted on a ballot of over 600 nominations to produce the final list. Judges were free to determine what constitutes a "gay novel" - a gay author, gay subject matter, or text that is simply open to gay interpretation.

The 100 Favorite Mysteries of the Century - To create this list, members of the Independent Mystery Booksellers Association's online discussion group spent nearly two months considering and debating hundreds of titles recommended by mystery booksellers throughout the country. In order to represent as many of their favorite writers as possible, it was agreed that each author would appear on the list only once.

100 Great 20th Century Works of Fiction by Women - This list was created by the editors of Feminista! in response to the Modern Library list, in which "the top 100 novels of the 20th century included 92 works by men and 8 by women."
