The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) aims to ensure that children in low-income areas continue to receive nutritious meals during the summer, when they do not have access to school lunch or breakfast. The program provides nutritious and free meals to children 18 and younger during the summer months. School districts and other eligible sponsors may serve as summer feeding program sites.

As part of the Mayors Challenge, Mayor Taylor is committed to making sure all children have equal access to nutritious meals, nutrition education, physical activity information and opportunities that establish a solid foundation for future life goals. This network empowers mayors across Texas to unite their efforts to reduce hunger and prevent obesity by promoting the 3E's of Healthy Living from the Texas Department of Agriculture¹s Food and Nutrition Programs.

Commissioner Todd Staples developed the 3E's of Healthy Living - Education, Exercise and Eating Right - to motivate Texans to embrace a healthy lifestyle.

  • Education teaches us to live healthy.
  • Exercise makes us more fit.
  • Eating Right with a nutritious diet helps us feel better.
