(San Antonio, TX – July 11, 2017)  This July, discover the power of play with the San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department in celebration of National Park and Recreation Month, an initiative of the National Recreation and Park Association. A variety of fun activities are planned for residents of all ages centered on this year’s theme of “Get Your Play On.”

San Antonians will celebrate all the ways parks and recreation has the power to transform our daily lives with thousands across the country. From providing us places to play, get fit and stay healthy to fostering new relationships and forging a connection with nature, our close-to-home community park and recreation facilities provide essential services and improve quality of life.

“San Antonio is unique and fortunate to have an array of parks, trails, natural areas, community centers, free fitness and free swimming that is available to all residents.” said Xavier Urrutia, San Antonio Parks and Recreation Director. “We invite residents to connect, play and explore the great outdoors with their neighbors, families and friends at over 240 City parks.”

The Parks and Recreation Department will celebrate Park and Recreation Month with free Fitness classes, Bravo dance shows, swimming, volunteer events and lots more. Visit SAParksandRec.com for a complete list of activities.

NRPA is also celebrating the month by hosting a weekly contest encouraging people to show them why play is so important in their lives. Visit www.nrpa.org/July for more information on how to participate. Entries can be submitted via the hashtag #NRPAPlayChallenge. The Parks and Recreation Department and NRPA also encourages residents to share why they think play is so important with the hashtag #PlayOnJuly and #SAParksandRec on social media.
