SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 3, 2017) — With San Pedro Park now WiFi accessible, the City today announced completion of this year's SmartSA WiFi in the Park initiative. The 10 added Parks bring the number of WiFi-accessible Parks to 22.
“WiFi access at City parks allows park users to stay connected while connecting with the outdoors,” said Xavier Urrutia, Parks and Recreation Director.
“The nation’s second-oldest park is already a place where residents and visitors can enjoy family fun at the pool and skate park, or explore nature on the trails. Adding WiFi to San Pedro Springs Park enables park visitors to stay connected digitally. Visitors to the park can now more easily access City services, apply for jobs, explore the web, relax with a digital book or show their favorite park spot on Instagram while enjoying the beauty of nature found throughout this historic park,” District 1 City Councilman Roberto Treviño said.
The WiFi in the Parks initiative was designed to improve digital access, enhance the way residents use community spaces and interact with the environment. It also provides another way for residents who do not have broadband access in their homes to connect to internet resources. The WiFi in the Parks initiative has created another way to serve the residents of San Antonio.
